Controversy ruled at Trial by Combat when Fury cashed in his 2014 Eliminator Contract on a broken and beaten Travis Banks to become the new IPW New Zealand Heavyweight Champion. Now, two of the greatest in-ring competitors in New Zealand history will clash with an unwavering desire to be the best in the business at Rival Turf on August 30th.
At Trial by Combat, Banks survived. He navigated the shark infested waters of the Investment only to be thrown back into the deep end by the duplicitous Daniel Burnell and his former friend, Fury. Banks understands the credo of ‘whatever it takes’ when it comes to claiming the New Zealand Heavyweight Championship, but will this betrayal be the harpoon that pierces the very heart of what drives this former champion? “You will face your fear. And you will lose.” These words from IPW Director Daniel Burnell became prophecy for Travis Banks this past Saturday night at Trial by Combat.
The night started brutally with a Tables Match that pitted Travis Banks against Curt Chaos. Both men sought to end the match early by utilizing the tables around the ring, but it would ultimately be in the centre of the ring where the match would be decided. Banks powerbombed his challenger through a table, got the pin and the right to advance in the New Zealand Heavyweight Championship Gauntlet.
In the second phase, The Investment’s hopes were pinned on the perennial bruiser Pat Schisk to bring the championship back under Burnell’s control. Travis Banks refused to fall in line with Director’s plans and locked in the Lion’s Clutch to send Pat Schisk packing with no gold.
The stage was then set for the main event, where Banks prepared to defend his New Zealand Heavyweight Championship in a triple threat match against the Agents of Change, Jakob Cross and Aaron Henry. AOC took early control of the match as the fight spilled outside and Banks struggled to gain space from the double team attack. When the physicality returned to the ring, however, the momentum shifted and the champ began to show the Agents what getting down to business his way was all about. Continue Reading
Surrounded and ambushed at Escalation, the New Zealand Heavyweight Championship seemed destined to be ripped from the grasp of Travis Banks by Daniel Burnell & The Investment. All those traits that make Banks a man, a competitor and ultimately a champion, led him to overcome the biggest obstacle ever put in front of a New Zealand Heavyweight Champion. At least, that’s what we thought until the revelation that he must face every single member of The Investment at Trial by Combat.
Every time he steps into the ring his cherished gold will be on the line, and never before has the New Zealand Heavyweight Champion been backed into a wall like this. A clear sign that Daniel Burnell has determined that the reign of Travis Banks must end at all costs.
For the first time in history the New Zealand Heavyweight Championship could be on the line multiple times in one night! An unprecedented Gauntlet has been thrust upon one of the greatest champions of the modern era, and as we know, champions are at their very best when the odds are so substantial. Continue Reading
Banks was surrounded by The Investment on Saturday night, and his New Zealand Heavyweight Championship looked set to be pried from his grasp but heart, passion, skill and a little helping hand from The Origin saw Travis Banks once again defend his gold against all odds!
Daniel Burnell wanted nothing more than the New Zealand Heavyweight Championship to be back within The Investment Portfolio and around the waist of Curt Chaos, and it seemed that would happen for a high percentage of The Investment Lumberjack Match. However, Travis Banks showed exactly why he is such an outstanding champion, battling back every time the numbers game got the better of him and once The Investment was cleared out of ringside by The Origin, he found his opportunity to defeat Curt Chaos with a vicious brain buster. The Peak of Perfection left with his gold but he also left with the knowledge that at Trial by Combat he must face every member of The Investment in an unprecedented Gauntlet for The New Zealand Heavyweight Championship. TnT overcame the odds and reached new heights to claim back gold!
As expected, it was a brutal and bloody encounter this past Saturday at New Heights when two teams collided in a Ladder Match battle for the IPW Tag Team Championship, but it would be the team of TnT leaving with the gold and all the spoils at the end of the night.
In a match that saw a series of some of the most physical altercations in IPW history, the team of Cross & Henry set about using their intense attack, full throttle brawl tactics and The Investment numbers advantage to hold on to their gold. But everything AOC brought to the table at New Heights was countered by TnT with their heart, passion and unwillingness to surrender…but it would be the help from The Origin that would prove to be a decisive blow. Valentine & Alexander, in what has become their trademark, hopped the safety railing at ringside to even up the numbers game, creating an opportunity for TnT to grasp not only the gold, but a spot in the highly popular Origin group! Dunn lived to fight another day thanks to the dirty tactics of The Investment!
In news that should surprise no one, Vinny Dunn has retained his IPW Championship via underhanded tactics at IPW New Year’s Takeover.
The triple threat match between Dunn, James Shaw and Travis Banks had been promised earlier in the night to be clean and without ambushing from The Investment. With that in mind, Vinny Dunn appeared to be alone in his title defence.
The match began with Shaw and Banks trying to one up each other until they decided two-on-one attacks would work better. However, the alliance was short lived as Dunn would be ejected from the ring early and the match truly turned towards every man for himself.
Shaw and Banks would try and get victories early over one another using a Stretch Muffler and a Lion Clutch respectively. However, Dunn managed to keep breaking up the possible submissions before he could lose his championship. Continue Reading
The Investment took control at Nightmare!
Travis Banks has been screwed out of a championship victory against Vinny Dunn by a new group known as The Investment.
Nightmare Before Xmas‘ Fans Bring the Weapons, IPW Championship main event began with a series of chops between champ Vinny Dunn and challenger Travis Banks.
Banks came out on top, and Dunn attempted to escape by running around the ring. Unfortunately, this was Fans Bring the Weapons; nowhere was safe.
As fast as Banks could reach for them, the strangest of weapons were being used to his advantage. A wooden tube, a toaster, a cabbage, and a Hulk hand were used in quick succession by the number one contender. A plastic table would then be used to prop Dunn up on the outside, allowing Banks to hit a devastating dropkick from the apron.
Eventually, Dunn managed to turn the match back around by forcing a ladder that Banks was going to use into his own face. Dunn would then hit a massive spear, but Banks was somehow able to kick out at the referee’s two-count.
Dunn would attempt to follow this up with the Muscle Buster, but Banks managed to roll through for a pinfall attempt and also getting a two-count. Continue Reading
